No. 6 USC took a 17-7 lead on No. 15 Notre Dame into halftime of their rivalry showdown as the Trojans try to pick up a critical victory for their College Football Playoff hopes. With a win Saturday and in next Friday’s Pac-12 Championship Game, the Trojans will have a strong case to make the four-team field. The Fighting Irish have been playing some of their best football as of late, though, and gave the Trojans a challenge in the first half.
Behind the play of quarterback Caleb Williams, USC took a two-possession lead into the break. Williams played a variety of roles for the Trojans in the first half. In addition to some elite quarterback play, featuring a rushing touchdown and passing touchdown, Williams also booted a 58-yard punt. On another play, he wound up as a receiver on a trick play and was called for pass interference while breaking up a potential interception. With the Fighting Irish striving to finish the regular season with a bang, and USC yearning for titles, the second half figures to be compelling theater.
CBS Sports will be here throughout the night with live updates, highlights and analysis as the Trojans and Irish battle each other in what should be a tremendous game to wrap up Rivalry Week.
