A chemical fire broke out at the Pasoik warehouse in New Jersey

PASSAIC, New Jersey (WABC) – A massive chemical fire in New Jersey is sending smoke billowing into the air.

The 11-alarm fire broke out Friday night at the Majestic Industries warehouse on Passage Street.

The company manufactures gaming and hospitality furniture for casinos and bingo halls and is affiliated with a chlorine manufacturer. Firefighters said the main building where the fire broke out had collapsed.

Mayor Hector Lora urges all bus residents to close their windows and stay inside because this is a dangerous chemical fire.

He says roads from 1st St. to Columbia Ave to Main Ave are blocked. At present, officials say, there is no need to evacuate the surrounding buildings.

Due to the lack of water pressure from the hydrants, firefighters who arrived at the scene are dealing with a severe water problem.

A firefighter was being treated at a local hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
