What’s better than music, food, prizes and fun? How about getting it all for free! The South Hayward Stroll, which will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., is being hosted by many local businesses and promises to be a very social event.

For the second year in a row, Hayward is encouraging families to come out together to meet others in the area and learn about businesses that are able to help them.

Last year there were about 100 residents and it is expected to double this year. Dave McKeown of Eden Family Services said, “We have almost 80 sponsors registered and we are hoping for more.”

Local businesses will have booths set up with representatives available to answer questions and give information on their services. The aim of the afternoon is to inform the community of services and resources accessible to them. Health, safety, support for children and families, nutrition, changing the environment, learning and education, jobs and volunteer opportunities and local services are some of what is on the agenda.

Other communities in the Bay Area have already sponsored strolls in their own neighborhoods, which have been very successful. This is where Hayward is getting its inspiration from. Bringing everyone together and celebrating diversity will unite the community and hopefully make this event gain more attention.

The event is being held at Tennyson Park on Panjon, Ruus and Huntwood roads behind Eden Youth and Family Center.
