The food, the atmosphere, the environment, the whole college sports scene is something a lot of us experience or have experienced in college. Yet at Chabot, you wont get a feel for it, not even a drop.

Our men's soccer team is currently ranked fifth in Northern California Community College Soccer, yet too few people show up to their games. We have a great team that has lost only one game and a has one of the leading scorers in Junior Leonardo who has made 10 goals this season and is ranked fourth in Northern California. Unfortunately, not enough people show up to the game. You may say, 'Well, it's soccer, we don't care about that."

Fine then, last spring semester our baseball team had a great record and went to the second round of the state playoffs before they lost it.

Yet all season, other than the parents of the players, almost no one came.

This semester, our football team is doing really well. Although they are 2-3, they do not give up and they play their hearts out. The few fans who do show-up to the games, don't cheer much for the team, and typically adorn themselves with a look of disgust.

The football team, who prepare all week long for the game, get hardly any crowd encouragement, because there really isn't much of a crowd who don't shout any encouragement.

Other than the family members of the players, the students who go to the game are often just there for the social event.

Games are supposed to be a time to get together, but our school's lack of support from the stands affects not only the football team but the cheerleaders too.

The look of disgust disgusted fans is not only directed toward the players but also at the cheerleaders.

If you judge them so much then join and bring in some ideas to get the crowd roaring and bring more people to the game.

If you're saying to yourself no, then keep your mouth closed. The cheerleaders are there to get the crowd into the game and show some school spirit.

Chanel Martinez, captain of the cheerleading squad says, "It's disheartening to go out there, with the tiny team that we have, and go in front of a group of people who are only there to judge us and typically aren't at all interested in helping. Where's the school pride in that?"

While you're busy worrying about how horrible you think the cheerleaders are doing, you end up completely losing interest in the football team.

"We hear about the comments made [by rude people] from the supportive fans. It doesn't change the fact that we'll still be at as many as the games as we can, just as loud, and just as supportive," Martinez said.

Our school has great sports, soccer, and water polo, tennis, basketball, track and field, women's volleyball, and men's wrestling. Come support our teams instead of criticzing the players, coaches, and cheerleaders. Be a Gladiator fan, not a hater.
