Liana Arteaga dribbles past a West Valley defender in the Lady Gladiators' 1-0 win over West Valley.

The Chabot College women's soccer team won its second straight game 1-0 and its first win against West Valley since head coach Tony Igwe has been coaching at Chabot.

The Lady Gladiators prevailed in the late second half with the only goal in the game from Esmeralda Lacayo.

The women came out playing together and more as a team.
The Lady Gladiators were out there communicating with one another and working hard.

Playing in one of their best games of the year, the Lady Gladiators have come a long way since the start of the season.
The first half showcased a lot of attacking from both teams and great ball movement by the Lady Gladiators.

A rare miscue by Lady Gladiator goalie Edina Ibric allowed West Valley to have a wide open shot at the goal.

As her shot was about to cross the line, defender Ana Muniz kicked the ball away. This kept the score at zero.

With 23 minutes left in the half, the Lady Gladiators performed a nice give-and-go between Natalie Arteaga and Kiri Jones.

Arteaga then passed to Lacayo who went on a break away and before the defender could take the ball away she passed it to her left to Liana Arteaga.

L. Arteaga tried to cross the ball but the West Valley goalkeeper nabbed her cross.

In the 37th minute, West Valley went on a counterattack and the West Valley forward took a shot that hit the Lady Gladiators' post.

In the second half, the Lady Gladiators came out and had total control of the ball and possession.

Whenever West Valley tried to dribble or pass, there was always a Lady Gladiator there to take it away and go on a counterattack.

The Lady Gladiators moved and passed the ball very well, especially in the 48th minute when Gaby Serpa passed the ball to L.Arteaga.

Arteaga's shot was blocked by the West Valley goalie when she came out to interfere.

But the Lady Gladiators finally put one in the back of the net in the 50th minute.

Lacayo received a pass into open space and she beat all of the defenders and went one-on-one against the West Valley goalie.
As the goalie started to come out, Lacayo flicked the ball over the keeper's head and into the upper right hand corner. giving the Lady Gladiators a 1-0 lead.
