Gladiators remain unbeaten at home
The Lady Gladiators bounce back from 1-0 loss and get a tie against rival school Las Positas College. The men's soccer team comes back from behind and sends Hartnell on a long journey back to Salinas

The men's soccer team played a speedy Hartnell College team on Friday Sept. 21 but managed to slow them down and get past them with a late goal from Chabot forward Junior Leonardo.
The Lady Gladiators came into Thursday's game ready to play and to avoid the makings of another losing streak.
Unfortunately for the Lady Gladiators, Delta College came to Chabot and added another loss to the Lady Gladiators' record.
The first half featured a lot of attacking from Delta College. Again and again, they tried to get past the Lady Gladiators' defense but it was to no avail.
Just like the game against Foothill College, the Lady Gladiators defense would not allow anyone to get passed them.
The Lady Gladiators did their best to try and hold possession of the ball, but once they tried to get any attack going, Delta College would get the ball back.
Delta College's best chance in the first half came when a forward went on a breakaway and the Lady Gladiators goalkeeper Edina Ibric came out of her box to take the shot away with her feet.
The second half the Lady Gladiators came out with full force to get a goal and gain control of the game.
In the 49th minute, Lady Gladiator forward Vanessa Inman received a pass but her shot went wide right.
After several minutes of trying to regain possession, Natalie Arteaga got the ball and showed her skills as she dribbled past three defenders and took a hard shot at the Delta College goalkeeper.
The goalie made a diving stop and punched the ball out.
The Lady Gladiators had their last chance to score in the 80th minute.
Kenia Hernandez received a pass from Mayra Loza but her shot went wide right.
Right when the Lady Gladiators thought they were going to tie, they made the one mistake of not being able to clear the ball out, Delta College made them pay.
The Delta College forward got the ball and just kicked the ball over Ibric's outstretched hands and that was all Delta College needed to win.
The Lady Gladiators did not let this loss get to them when they played the very next day against rival school, Las Positas College.
The Lady Gladiators ended up with a draw against the Lady Hawks 3-3.
Kiri Jones scored on a pass from Esmeralda Lacayo, Liana Arteaga scored and had an assist on the goal scored by Hernandez.
The men's soccer team took the field on Friday to face a very fast and well conditioned Hartnell College team.
After losing their first game of the season against Modesto College, the Gladiators were determined to stay unbeaten at home.
About nine minutes into the match Yoshi Shimada received a nice pass but his shot was blocked when the Hartnell goalkeeper came out.
A few minutes later, Hartnell went on a counterattack.
The forward received the ball and his shot hit the post.
During the scramble the Gladiators failed to clear the ball and a Hartnell player got the ball and put it in the net, giving Hartnell 1-0 lead.
The Gladiators came back when Leonardo popped the ball up and over a defender's head and shot the ball before it hit the ground into the right post. This tied the game at 1-1.
With a few minutes left until halftime, Hartnell again went on another counterattack.
The Hartnell forward beat the Gladiators defenders and put the ball past Gladiators goalkeeper Carlos Cerda, giving Hartnell a 2-1 lead.
The second half belonged to the Gladiators. The Gladiators came out of halftime poised and not willing to settle for a tie but to win the game.
The Gladiators tied the game when the Hartnell goalie blocked a shot but the ball went straight to Gladiator midfielder Jesus Cortez who shot the ball into the goal and tied the game at 2-2.
Hartnell's best chance to regain the lead came in the 85th minute when they went on another breakaway.
Cerda came out very badly and left the goal opened, when the Hartnell forward shot the ball it was blocked by Nick Arredondo.
With bad luck, the ball went to another Hartnell player who shot the ball. But it was blocked by Cortez. The worst had passed for the Gladiators and the best was yet to come.
In the 90th minute Gladiator midfielder Dickson Igbineweka passed the ball to Leonardo.
Leonardo dribbled past one defender and shot the ball into the back of the net giving the Gladiators a 3-2 victory.
Head Coach Tony Igwe said, "I was very proud of the strong effort by our players."
"Our players fought hard and they earned to get the last goal."
The Gladiators then traveled to Gilroy to take on Gavilan College and beat Gavilan 3-2.
Shane Kilby put the Gladiators ahead, but Gavilan quickly tied the game up.
The Gladiators leading goal scorer Leonardo tied the game up when he recived a pass from Bo Dae Park.
Leonardo also scored the third goal, giving the Gladiators the win.
The Gladiators next home game is on Friday Sept. 28 against Evergreen College at 4 p.m.
The Lady Gladiators will host West Valley College on Tuesday Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.
