Hope for a renewed social life

Social life? What social life? Finding a niche on campus where you feel you belong may seem nearly impossible while trying to juggle school, work, and for many, families.

It is not helping that College Hour, which used to be the noon till 1p.m. hour that housed many clubs and student activities, has been temporarily put on hiatus.

This hiatus seems to have greatly affected the clubs on campus as there were 25 or so last year and this year only eight clubs seem to have resurfaced.

Without this hour free of classes and available for clubs, many students find themselves without a concrete way of finding others with similar interests.

Lack of student activities has decimated the Chabot College campus student social life.

Afternoon classes seem to threaten the student body population because many students cannot possibly fit school into their schedules if they cannot take morning classes.

Most students do not stay on campus to meet and chat with others, simply because they do not know where to go and are not currently given the opportunity to change that scenario.

We, at the Spectator believe that both the lack of social life and the current issue of afternoon classes can be remedied.

By having mainly club time during College Hour, this will attract students to stay on campus and socialize, participate in clubs and make new clubs if they do not find what they are looking for in the clubs already in existence.

Hopefully, the student body paricipation in this undertaking will cause club activity to prosper.

For all the late risers, what better way would there be to start your day?

You could start with a little socializing, a little schmoozing and then go off to your afternoon classes.

For all those who consider themselves shy or perhaps even socially challenged, along with those who are socially starved, this will give you the opportunity to meet new people and build friendships outside of Myspace.

More importantly participating in school clubs will make you feel welcome on campus, and will hopefully keep you engaged enough to stay on campus and consider taking a few afternoon classes with your new pals.

Of course this may not be a possibility for all students, but it is hopefully a partial solution to our current state of social deprivation.
