Lady Gladiator, Laura Zimbrick, scores a point for the Lady Gladiators in a victory over Gavilan.

Despite losing one of the most influential players in the very first match, Christa Hicks, the ladies of the Chabot's woman's volleyball team continued to pull it together in order to keep it a close match and finally win the game in five sets.

When asked about the injured player Hicks, head coach Amber Sammons said, "We lost one of the best players on the team."
"She slipped on something and hopefully she'll recover fast."

Even though they lost their first match 28-29 against the ladies of Gavilan, the team proved that one player down would not stop them from dominating the next three games.

Starting off strong in the second match, sophomore Laura Zimbrick made an awesome shot that gave the team a 21-16 lead.
That was followed by a great save from freshman Katie Schmidt against one of Gavial's best players, Janet Unciano.

Just when it looked like Gavilan was catching up, taking the lead to 24-25 against the Gladiators, Brittney Alexander, a setter, who works great under pressure not only ties the score, but takes the lead against Gavilan 26-25.

Starting off the third match with a great lead, Kassidy Rowley, Linda Saunders, Joey Arella and Zimbrick showed excellent team work controlling the ball and did not leave any room for distractions.

This opened up an opportunity for Irean Takahashi-Coker to come in for a kill with a strong hit, scoring 8-1 in the first couple of minutes.

The Gladiators constantly kept ahead of Gavilan, ending the third match with a leading score 29-28.

During the fourth match, the ladies of Chabot slipped a little bit in the beginning by losing their focus, which left Gavilan to take the lead 0-6, that is, until Alexander came up to serve.

Alexander delivered amazing hits that Gavilan just could not keep up with. Alexander tied the score 6-6 within just minutes.
Rowely also dominated over Gavilan scoring not once, not twice, but four straight shots into the heart of Gavilan.

Rowely did this with fantastic support and assistance from her fellow team members as well as the leadership of coach Sammons.

Losing 10-6, Gavilan struggled to catch up but finally did with a score of 18-14 over the Lady Gladiators.

Gavilan finally took the fourth match with a score of 30-29.
In the deciding match against Gavilan, the Lady Gladiators suffered a bit toward the end with Gavilan taking the lead 13-10 right up to the very last couple of minutes.

The Lady Gladiators regrouped and conquered. with the final score of a 17-15, match set against Gavilan.

These ladies worked hard and they proved that.

Sammons encouraged her players every second of the game.
"Last week started off rocky but we came ready to fight," said head coach Sammons.

Coach Sammons was right about the girls coming ready to fight; they played hard and fought even harder.
