Some things may seem closer than they appear.

When you come to Chabot you never have the intention of failing to meet your expectations.

Unfortunately for some, they aren't able to transfer and reach their goal.

Many of you are fighting to keep your head above water. You might be juggling work and school, and for some, a family as well.

As motivated adults we must try our hardest to fight for what we want in life. The counseling department or the health center can provide an open ear.

Plan ahead for projects, essays, tests and homework. Get a student planner so you can coordinate school and a busy schedule. Do your best not to procrastinate.

The sooner it's done, the less you have to worry about. Only good things can come from achieving your personal goals.

Remember to take one step at a time; we have to crawl before we can walk.

We, the editors of The Spectator, believe and understand that students aren't transferring due to the many obstacles that students face.

There is nothing that you, as a strong student can't overcome.
Be realistic. Don't overload yourselves with too many classes if you have to work full -time.

There are only 24 hours in a day, and you have to sleep and have time for yourself for some of them.

Be positive. Don't get down on yourself if you don't get the grade you thought you would, or if you don't understand some of the material.

Realize that you are not the first or the last to have questions or confusion about a subject. Make friends with classmates and arrange study dates.

You could also have a meeting with your instructor to answer questions.

Don't be scared to ask for help. Don't be embarrassed to raise your hand in class.

When you have a question, chances are someone else had the same one too. There is no such thing as a stupid question.

There is a math lab, foreign language lab and a library full of resources and experienced tutors in their subjects.

Take advantage of the many student services here at Chabot.

Remember these services are specifically set up to help you achieve what you are looking for, to make your college experience go as smoothly as possible.

We, the editors, say, "You can do it!" We ll want to succeed, and your goal may be closer than it appears to be.
