The Gladiator baseball team finished the 2007 season with a 32-11 record and will enter this year's Community college baseball Northern California playoffs the No. 3 seed.

Chabot steamrolled its way into the playoffs by winning its last eight games to become the Coast Conference south division champs. To put the icing on the cake, Chabot put 11 players on the All Coast Conference team, eight on the first team, and four on the second team, as well as five honorable mentions.

This year's Coast Conference all stars are as follows: As expected to be, player of the year Rylan Sandoval was nominated for the second season in a row. Eric Basurto will join him as a Coast Conference selection and was named closer of the year, and head coach Steve Friend was named this year's Coast Conference coach of the year.

First baseman Rob Learned will join the 2007 Coast Conference first team infield as well alongside teammate Bryce Mendonca. Outfielder Zack Cadet earned a first team selection and Kevin Santiago is the All Coast Conference designated hitter, and Erik Stavert, and Dan McDaniel will represent Chabot as Coast Conference first team pitchers.

Rob Waite was chosen as a second team pitcher, and teammates Jeff Bernacil, and Charles Roberson will join him. Tyler Rogers, Stephen Gatehouse, Matt Dejesus, Robert Chimpky, and John Anderson made the Coast Conference honorable mention.

On May 3 the Gladiators traveled to San Jose and beat San Jose City College 6-4. McDaniel got the start, pitching four and two thirds, giving up three earned runs on four hits and four walks. McDaniel struck out five before passing the ball on to Waite who picked up the win, pitching three innings allowing one run on two hits and striking out five. Basurto picked up the save in one and one third inning's pitched.

Mendonca was two-for-five in the game with a stolen base. Bernacil was two-for-four with a double and a run scored. Sandoval was walked three times but did come around to score. Santiago hit another home run in on a one for four performance, and Learned joined him in the long ball category, hitting a home run on one of his two hits in five at bats.

The Gladiators returned home to host the College of San Mateo and came away victorious 4-3 in 12 innings of play. Stavert started the game and pitched four and one third innings allowing two runs to score, one of which was earned. Stavert struck out five, walked four and gave up three hits in the game.

John Anderson also pitched in the game for Chabot, going three and one third striking out three, allowing one earned run to score. Rob Waite would eventually pick up the win, recording just one out in the ball game.

Mendonca had two hits in six at bats and stole two bases. Santiago again homered and scored twice in four trips to the plate, and Roberson was once again hit by a pitch.

Chabot will open the playoffs at home as a three seed against 14th seeded Skyline. The double elimination round will begin play on May 11 and 12 beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
