Chabot qualifies for state

The Chabot College track and field team had 12 of its athletes qualify for the Northern California Championships. The championships are set to take place this Saturday May 12, at American River College.
First the Gladiators had to qualify at the Nor Cal trials that took place on May 4, at Merritt College in order to qualify for the Northern California Championships. Kyle Robinson came in third in the 800 meter run, coming in at 1:56.35. The Gladiators also came in fifth in the 4 by 400 meter relay. Aaron Macklin ran his way to second place with a time of 55.12 in the 400 meter hurdles. Robert Gire threw his way into fifth place in the discus throw, allowing him to qualify for the Northern California Championships. Also qualifying for the Gladiators is David McDonald who came in 10th place in the javelin throw.
Other Gladiators who qualified include Darryl Turner in the triple jump, Nick Sigmon and Joey Nunes in the 5,000 meter run and Jossue Morales will partner up with Robinson, Macklin, and Turner in the 4 by 400 relay.
The Lady Gladiators had four women qualify at theNor Cal trials for the Northern California Championships. Shiela Cleland qualified for the shot put, discus, and the javelin. Jasmine Brooks jumped her way into qualifying in the long jump and triple jump.
Laura Zimbrick qualified herself in the two events, the hammer and the discus. Linda Saunders hopes to have a strong finish in the championships as she qualified for the pole vault.
Although they did not qualify for the championships, Jennifer Wong and Shana Mitchell both had personal bests in the 100 meter hurdles. Wong finished 14th with a time of 16.78, and Mitchell 18th with a time of 17.32.
Mitchell also had a personal best in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 69.46.
