Speaking on WWII imprisonment (covered by Veronica Overstreet)
Japanese American, Mas Hatano, visited Chabot College on Tuesday, April 24, to discuss his 3 years of incarceration at Tule Lake Concentration Camp during World War II.
"You lost all privacy," said Hatano, regarding his imprisonment. "That was one of the worst things some people faced."
Hatano and his fellow Japanese Americans were confronted with a pledge of loyalty to the United States, and those who would not pledge were to be isolated from the rest. "It turned family members against each other," said Hatano.
Japanese Americans were drafted as well, according to Hatano, and he explained how in January 1945, the U.S. decided they no longer needed the camps.
