Last week's Associated Students of Chabot College election is now voided due to discrepancies in the college's election code.

ASCC Election Chair and Marketing Director Rachael Berry, was the election committee organizer for the ASCC elections and was in charge of flyers and pamphlets for the candidates.

Unknown to Berry, all adjustments to elections documents must be voted upon by the ASCC.

Berry has recognized the procedural mistakes and taken full responsibility for her improper actions and stated in a letter to the ASCC and Chabot College Student Body,

"It is of the utmost importance that the ASCC continues to maintain the highest of ethical standards… I would like to express my deepest apologies to the candidates who worked hard on their campaigns and have to suffer for my unintentional mistakes."

Berry said Wednesday that she had no advisor to rely on, regarding valid election voting procedures.

All candidates who were running must rerun in two weeks, May 14, for a new vote. Until then, the candidacy for ASCC positions will be open to students in good academic standing.

Additionally Berry stated, "It is my recommendation that the election committee be disbanded.

This whole occurrence with the ASCC's mistakes is a prime example of why the ASCC is in dire need of a director of student life. Due to the unavailable and necessary staff support, slip-ups have occurred.

The ASCC has been without a director of student life since August last year. There have been previous discussions on hiring other administrators, including a director of student life but President Carlson who has focused his energy on promoting the hiring a Dean of Academic Services has thwarted those discussions.
