Two soda moguls fight over Chabot pouring rights

The Chabot foundation has finally come to a decision in regards to who will receive pouring rights here a Chabot college. The process has been a slow one, because the decision- making began last July and will soon be finalized. The official announcement is still being planned.
Coca-Cola has had pouring rights with Chabot since 1994, due to the fact that the agreement was made through an outside firm, which gave Coca-Cola its 12 years and the many advertisement opportunities around the college campus.
Chabot has never received funds directly from the proposed revenue to be made by dealing with such a company because the money was going to an outside source, the third party firm. In return the firm said that they would give Chabot the marquee at the entrance of the college, which is worth close to $64,000.
At the 12-year mark, the marquee was vandalized, and when the president of the college as well as the board of trustees was trying to get it fixed, they called upon Coca-Cola and the third party firm for help but never received any.
Not only does Chabot have the contract with Coca-Cola, the college also has a contract with West Coast Vending, which is separate from the general pouring rights contract. With both contracts, Chabot College students, as well as the athletics department, would receive $12, 000 annually.
The marquee incident is not the only thing that sparked the decision for a possible change, Coca-Cola hasn't been holding up their end of the bargain, said foundation director Richard Talmo.
"We do not think that Coca-Cola did a very good job, we think their service was very slip shot and we need that to improve or we will turn it over to Pepsi," Talmo said.
There are over 30 vending machines around the campus and the foundation believes that the number is too high, especially when there aren't any in places that they are needed such as, the women's locker room and the baseball field.
The ASCC has been in charge of upholding the contracts and meeting with vendors. This would be a job for the college's director of student life and right now the position is vacant.
