Chabot keeps lock on first place despite loss to West Valley College

The Gladiator baseball team continues to win after taking two of their last three games against Ohlone, Canada, and West Valley Colleges.

Chabot is in good playoff position with a 17-3 conference record and a 26-11 record overall.

The Gladiators traveled to Canada College on April 19 and won 14-2. Dan McDaniel got the start and picked up his team- leading eighth win, improving to 8-1.

McDaniel pitched six innings, and struck out five. Tyler Rogers pitched three innings in the game and picked up his second save this season.

McDaniel has recorded 48 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched and has a 4.21 earned run average. Rogers has also recorded 48 strikeouts in 40.1 innings pitched and both men are tied for the lead in the strike out category.

Hosting Ohlone on April 21, the Gladiators once again came out on top 9-2 to take the season sweep.

Erik Stavert got the start and the win, pitching five innings, allowing two runs to score, both of which were earned. Stavert gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out two.

To this point in the season Stavert has recorded 40 strikeouts, and 20 walks in 12 games played, eleven of which he started, resulting in a 6-1 record, leading the team with 55 innings pitched and a 2.29 earned run average after giving up 14 earned runs.

Robert Chimpkey picked up his third save on the season against Ohlone pitching four innings and striking out five. Chimpkey has struck out 22 batters in 19 innings of work this year.

The Gladiator offense was in good form, exploding for a six run third inning that pretty much ended the game.

Bryce Mendonca got hit with more pitches than he actually hit. Mendonca had one hit in three official at bats, was hit by two pitches, stole a base and came around to score once.

Mendonca has a .397 batting average, 23 walks and strike outs, and leads the team with 53 runs scored, as well as stolen basses with 40.

Rylan Sandoval had two hits in five at bats, including a home run. He scored twice, stole a base, and brought in two runs, while Kevin Santiago had a tremendous game going two for three with a home run, a run scored, a walk, and two RBI's of his own.
