GSA members speak out against Christian activists

Melville, Justin

Issue date: 4/19/07 Section: In Focus
This is part of political awareness. It would be forceful if we killed all these students for not believing. We're just offering a point of view. We're expressing our rights as American citizens."

Campus security became a little worried when lunch hour was about to end. One Chabot student, Omar Heuilar, actually went to the bookstore and bought a white poster board.

On it he wrote, "I'm with Stupid," and had it pointing at Griner. Both the "Gay Pride" flag and the "I'm with Stupid" sign stayed held up in the air until Farrar and his team left.

Minder Bal, vice president of the GSA said, "We have a right to be here. We can hold up this flag anytime we want on this campus they (Christian activists) eventually have to leave. Farrar and his team got escorted away from the scene.

The GSA remained to hold the flag up high. Some students and faculty walked up to the members of the GSA and congratulated them.

In light of what just recently happened at Blacksburg (for those who didn't hear about Blacksburg it can be found on many Internet sites), it was quite a contrast to see students standing for what they believed in from either side.

The GSA got to hold up their flag, but there was something more in the air. It was the smell of student power, student ability, and student influence.

Students are the future, if they don't stand up for what they believe in, students wont get anywhere in the 21 Century.
