"I can't get no contract satisfaction!" sings Anthony W. Ochoa Middle School teacher Carol Phifer as she picketed in front of the middle school on Depot Road in Hayward. Phifer, a special education teacher, was one of several Ochoa teachers to go on strike on Thursday, April 5 after mid-contract salary negotiations for Hayward Unified School District teachers broke down. Teachers from all over the HUSD went on strike to protest what they considered an unacceptable offer made by the district's administration.
