Besides a bed, what other piece of furniture can provide the comfort that the human body needs? Survey says: a couch! Or, a sofa will suffice.

It's common knowledge that every known classroom is furnished with the usual: tables, desks, chairs, chalkboards and such. But not every location has the luxury of having a couch.

In case you've been living in a chair-free world, a couch is a long, upholstered piece of furniture with a back and arms, built to accommodate at least two people.

Certain areas of Chabot College are blessed with this fine piece of handiwork.

With thorough reporting and an enthusiastic attitude, I had the satisfaction of visiting every building in search of the comfiest couch.

On my journey, I encountered several students enjoying the sofas and even witnessed two individuals taking naps.

There are 15 couches on campus, but only 12 are shown here, because three have a twin.

Everything has its own uniqueness, just as couches have their own personalities and experiences. With that said, each couch (or pair) receives two ratings on a scale of 1-10.

I will determine the first rating, measuring the overall comfort level (C), 1 being a wooden seat and 10 as the ideal couch. The other will be judged on how accessible (A) it is to the students of Chabot, according to staff members.

I considered adding a hygiene rating, but I don't want anyone sacrificing his or her comfort for cleanliness, because, if that were the case, we'd all be standing up.

For those who are curious for convenient, comfy couches on campus, who will miss Chabot or simply will be bored during Spring Break, here is a little game to play.

I entitle this piece Connect the Comfort. Each description has an embedded clue. Good Luck!

This is dedicated to the theater arts students. Two years ago, the couch in the lobby of Building 1200 was removed due to excessive loitering, according to a plaque presently posted in said area.

It seems that most of the couches are off limits to students.

This is typical at Chabot where the Campus President has decided to run Shared Governance. (Continued…)
