The ladies came ready to play, scoring four runs in their half of the first inning. After hitting around for a little while in a rally that brought one across the plate, Regina Martinez stepped up and delivered a two-run bomb to center field.
The inning wouldn't stop there. After Sam Sirico walked, and then stole second, she came around to score on an MPC error to right field. What was an even bigger surprise, the scoring didn't stop there either. Leah Rhodes led off the bottom of the second inning with a double and then stole third on a passed ball.
Sirico followed right behind her and stepped up to the plate to give the Lady Gladiators another two-run home run, and a 6-0 lead.
But wait, there's more.Amber Merrigan reached first on an error, but was caught stealing second after sliding late and not being able to get under the tag.
No worries, it was Martinez to the rescue once more with a pop up that got lost in the sun and landed between the Monterey Peninsula College shortstop, and the left and center fielders.
Alexandria King kept the inning alive with a triple to right field. King would score later on in the same inning on a fielder's choice to give Chabot an early 8-0 lead.
The big inning is just a product of the hard work the ladies have put into the season, and the confidence that is coming out of it. Head coach Chelsea Spencer said, "The girls have been getting consistent playing time, and because of that we're gaining more confidence in each other to be able to get the job done."
And it was not just the bats that have been coming around for the ladies; the pitching staff got it together as well, holding off MPC from scoring until the top of the fourth. Returning from a back injury Stephanie Anderson pitched well for three strong innings of work.
However Anderson fell into a world of trouble when she walked the bases loaded, and then walked a run in before being replaced by Frances Gasmena. Gasmena came in and was able to get Chabot out of the inning, without getting the Lady Glads into any more trouble.
When asked about her bullpen, coach Spencer said "We've been injured this year; Raelyn Sagun tore her ACL and Stephanie is just now coming back, so it's hurt us as far as walks, but we're stepping it up."
The Lady Gladiators will host Cabrillo College today at 3 p.m.
