State and federal Web sites revolve around students

McLorin, Shanae

Issue date: 3/15/07 Section: News
For students who are seeking help with questions about Free Application For Federal Student Aid forms, student loan lenders and even loan consolidation the answers look like they could be simply a click away. Simpletuition.com supplies the tools needed to find and compare rates for funding, even when it is not necessarily in the student's best interest.

At first glance one would think that simpletuition.com is the answer to all of student's prayers but it is not. Simpletuition.com puts on a strong act, making one believe that it will get the best rates, get all of the information needed when in reality it is the exact opposite.

Chabot Director of Financial Aid, Kathy Linzmeyer said that this web site does not promote state and federal information, which provides student with sufficient information on loans, fixed loan rates and information on grants.

"I am exceedingly against this site, I absolutely do not endorse it, I encourage students to obtain the information elsewhere," said Linzmeyer.

College offers a lot more to students than it has in the past, but making your college dreams comes true can also be more of a hassle than getting accepted into college. Tuition, books, housing, meal plans and a number of other things play a major role in the amount of money a student needs in order to get through the school year.

Before adding extra stress on yourself, use more than one web site for information, compare sites and then ask someone who is more equipped for better judgement to tell you if the site is good enough for you.

Supposedly Simply Tuition was created to make this time in your life much easier, but with alternative loans there are no rules, and you could eventually spend three times as much in interest rates than you actually borrowed.

According to Simple Tuition the student resource center provides, "Useful information and objective insights on student loans, financial aid, college funding, student consolidation and more."
