Robert Lu leads his first meeting as the newly appointed president of the ASCC.

This may come as a shock for a few Chabot students, but the former president of the ASCC resigned her position last month, and was replaced by her vice president, Robert Lu.

Lu, a psychology major at Chabot, never really saw himself in politics, but he did always see himself in an area of leadership. He has been actively involved with the Student Senate for two years and aspires to do great things while his terms in office continue.

But why would this particular student join student government? Lu stated in an e-mail, "The reason I joined the senate was simple. I wanted to do something more than just attend class. I wanted to be more involved and experience all that Chabot had to offer."

However, when Lu first decided to join the ASCC, he never really envisioned himself as the president. Lu stated, "I had never really thought about it. To me, the position in the Senate didn't matter as long as I was able to be involved and had my voice heard. Anyone can make a difference no matter their position or title."

As the new president, who joined half-way through the semester, he does not plan to take his job lightly at all. Lu stated, "As of right now the ASCC is working very hard on increasing the amount of student life on campus, in a way we are trying to revitalize College Hour. We are in the workings of having numerous College Hour events to end the year.

Along with trying to increase campus life, the ASCC is getting involved with the Student Senate, which is a body that allows students to work on a local and national level to advocate student rights. My plans for the rest of the year are to get those things either started or done. This late in the year, all we can do is make sure that student voices are heard and that future ASCC members get off to a good start."
