It is rumored that College Hour at Chabot will no longer exist after this semester.

In a bold move, ASCC members say, President Carlson announced that he is cutting college hour, without approval or input from students or the ASCC.

Dayne Nichols, who is the ASCC's representative on the Board of Trustees for the ASCC comments "We feel that the decision was made before it was brought to us… The one thing I'll never forget he said, 'The students will just have to deal with it.'"

Neither President Carlson, Vice President Matsuda, nor Vice President Taylor were able to comment on this situation when visited by the Spectator.

"Some of the defenses that they (The Board of Trustees) came up with were 'Well, we don't have time to get all of that information,' which is in direct violation of some of our governing documents. Student input is supposed to be given every reasonable consideration."

Many agree that without College Hour clubs and campus life would both be threatened and may even cease to exist entirely.

Daniel Hinds observes, "Student life is a major component in enrollment and retention and with the elimination of college hour we are taking away the number of students who can become part of student life. This decision is counter productive to enrollment."

Long before any of this had happened, Ryan Belden and Daniel Hinds opted to organize a rally against dissolving College Hour.

The ASCC originally did not intend to endorse this as an ASCC function but recently adopted it as a cause and even arranged for the rally to be on the same day as Club Day.

During this rally there will be performances, speeches, prize giveaways, as well as free lunch.

With this rally, the ascc hopes to raise awareness of the current situation among the student body and prove to the administration that students do care what happens on campus.
