The Gladiator basketball team exited the first round of this year's playoffs losing at home to Hartnell 82-80 in overtime.

In a game in which Chabot played spirited basketball from start to finish, the Gladiators once again suffered from a second half meltdown, losing a nine point lead with 1:08 left to play in the second half.

With the refs attacking the Gladiator frontline, charging them with ticky-tack fouls, shot blocker Paki Brown fouled out and Hartnell began to have their way at the rim.

The refs semmed to bail out Hartnell every time they blew the whistle. Hartnell continued to make their charge back at the Gladiators in overtime. With the score tied 80-80 and just over a second left to play, Hartnell caught Chabot sleeping and scored an easy basket under the rim.

After the refs failed to give Chabot the proper time left on the clock, allowing the point two seconds left to play instead of allowing more time, the Gladiators needed to go the entire length of the floor to score.

They did. Forward Chris Woodbury threw a football pass to guard Jason Curtis, and Curtis threw up a prayer that was answered.

But it was an answer the refs snatched away, because he shot the ball and didn't tip it in, even though that's exactly what it looked like Curtis did.

One thing is for sure, Chabot basketball had a great season this year, and should be playing on toward a championship. It's a shame that thier year had to end on a bad call.
