Bernadette Richard stepped down as the president of the ASCC last Thursday, just before the start of the President's Day weekend.
Robert Lu, former ASCC vice president, has assumed the position of ASCC president. He recently commented, "As soon as the president position is vacant the vice president automatically chairs senate meetings and becomes president. There was nothing for the vice president to do so right now we wait."
The ASCC will be accepting applications and letters of intent until Jan. 29, after which time President Lu will appoint a current member of the ASCC to the position of vice president, and the position that member will be promoted from will be open for letters of intent for two weeks.
Members of the ASCC were still unsure of the reason for Richard's departure. Nina Kiger, Student Life staff member, also commented on Richard's departure, "[I'm] very saddened to hear it. We will miss her a lot".
Kiger was not sure why Richard decided to resign from her position, but said "She [Richard] was highly stressed, and recently faced several medical problems".
Before Richard's resignation, two more senate members were removed from their positions. Senator Devin Maharaj and Financial Director Stephanie Vielma were removed from their postions for dereliction of duty. With Richard's resignation that's now four members the ASCC has lost since the beginning of the spring semester.
First was Curtis Ballard, for altercations with another senate member, mentioned in a previous issue, and now the ejection of two senate members and the resignation of Richard.
ASCC members hope the resignation of Richard is the last of the misfortunes that has been plaguing the ASCC.
