Is euthanasia the right thing to do? Many animal owners believe that animals should be given a full life, if not a decent one. One animal owner said, "If animals should be given a chance to live, give them the full love, support, and caring a normal human being should have. Animals are part of a family too."
Rather than having animals euthanized, people should open their hearts and adopt them as pets.
When you adopt a pet, you should at least give them a home in which they can be given the love, support, caring and love that an ordinary human being should have. If you leave a dog in the shelter, then you give them no option but to be put down to rest.
Take, for example, the Diane Whipple case in 2001 when two dog owners let their two fighting dogs loose on Whipple. Whipple was a lacrosse teacher and coach at St. Mary's College, and she was mauled to death by two presa canario/mastiff dogs owned by Robert Noel and Marjorie Knoller. Noel & Knoller failed to leash their dogs, and they were found guilty of manslaughter.
Knoller is now out on parole and is living in Florida with her mother. Noel was released from jail in Sept. 2003 and is currently living in Fairfield, Calif. The dogs they owned, Bane & Hera, were euthanized in Jan. 2002.
If you think about euthanizing your animal, then try to think ethically and consider whether it is the right thing to do.
It all comes down to ethics. Think about whether it is the right thing to do because when you consider euthanizing your pet, you take away a pet's life, but you know that their spirit will live on.
