It seems that the cavalry is starting to arrive for those who have been fighting the construction of the power plants here in Hayward. The speakers were students, faculty and community organizers who have been working for months now to stop Hayward from sliding into an inefficient, irresponsible past and to push it towards a "greener," more energy efficient future.

Swarms of hopeful college students enroll at Chabot every year, but they have no clue about all the programs and services it offers. In fact, many students who have been at Chabot for a number of years are still clueless about what EOPS and ASPIRE are. 776 Productions, led by Chabot English instructor Sean McFarland, has given Chabot a glimpse of their newest project, Door Number One, last Mega Day, May 10.

Chabot College hosted its annual scholarship award ceremony last Friday This year, thirty-four Gladiators had the merits to win awards. Every gladiator has their own story and their abilities are charming. The winner of the Dr. Reed L. Buffington Scholarship, Randi Ray, was chosen for her exceptional leadership and her voluntary service to the community.

Chabot College celebrates its annual commencement in the Grand Court at 10 a.m. Saturday May 31, with a keynote address by Alameda County Superior Court Judge Leo Dorado. More than 300 of the 1,000 candidates eligible to receive their associate's degrees are expected to participate in the colorful ceremony.

Drug use and bust in university

Students planning to transfer to San Diego State may want to rethink their transfer plans. On Tuesday May 6, agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency arrested 96 people at San Diego State as part of a sting operation. The sting was in response to the overdose death of a freshman the year before.
